Hammams

Two of the most prominent hammams in Istanbul are Cagalogue and Cemberlitas. Without a doubt, Cemberlitas is the better of the two. The price is more reasonable, the service better (Cagalogue workers were inquiring about tips even before you start), and it just seemed cleaner.  I particularly liked the fact that Cemberlitas gave you rubber slippers as opposed to wooden clogs like Cagalugue gave which have no traction and have you sliding all over the place on the marble.  Cemberlitas was also designed by the famed Ottoman Architect in the 15th century and is one of his famous buildings. Both have separate rooms for men and women.

  1. I only spent about 2 days – it was great, but other than the Sema show, there isn’t much there. It is a nice quiet town which I liked. Also, I am a huge follower of Rumi poetry, so it was great to make the visit to his shrine there.
