Tokyo Stopover

Tokyo Stopover
Is a trip into Tokyo possible on a stopover? It all depends on how much time. Here’s what I did:
Landed into Narita with 6 hours, and my connection was in Hanaeda Airport which itself takes about 1.5 hours to get to from Narita apparently. So I figured I might as well just go via central Tokyo since it would be about 45 min each way anyway.
Plan:

Shower. Optional of course, but after a 9 hour flight of poor sleep (btw – United business class to Tokyo is horrendous), I needed it just for the energy. Narita has shower spots throughout — Approximately $10

Next Grab a train to Shinjuku — this is where I lost time! I didn’t realize there are two tickets you need to buy in order to get on the Narita-Shinjuku express train. I didn’t quite understand what the different prices are for but it seems that the first is for just access to the train system, and the 2nd is for the actual ride. ¥1520 + ¥1730 — prices might change, but when purchasing on the machine, it showed them itemized

Locker Storage Once you get to the train station find a locker to store your bags. I found the one near the bus stop that I would need to get on a bus to take me to Hanaeda. There were a bunch of lockers at Block C which was right beside the ticket booth for the bus to Hanaeda – cost ¥1400

From there – enjoyed a couple hours with friends and then came back, picked up the bags from the locker, hop on the bus, and check in to the connection. At Hanaeda, check in was a breeze too.

Overall, anything less than a total of 6 hours for a connection wouldn’t be worth it. I was able to spend about 2 hours in Shinjuku area without feeling stressed.
